Founded by two bilingual moms, Jessica and Catalina, who met at a library storytime, this initiative aims to promote literacy in both English and Spanish. Jessica, a first generation Mexican-American, and Catalina, a native Spanish speaker from Colombia, recognized the lack of Spanish storytime options in the diverse city of Chicago.

Together, they created La hora del cuento to provide children and adults with a space to learn and enjoy language learning, celebrating Latinx culture. With a focus on Spanish immersion and bilingual storytelling, Spanish Storytime partners with parents, educators, libraries, and community groups to encourage #readinspanish and foster a love for reading in both languages.
