About Kennedy-King College
Kennedy-King College, located at 6301 S Halsted St, Chicago, IL 60621, United States, offers classes in English, Spanish, French, Chinese, Italian, and Japanese. Established during the Great Depression due to public pressure, the college faced closure but was saved by legendary lawyer Clarence Darrow who argued for the importance of higher education for the people.
Following this, Wilson and Wright Colleges were established, with Gwendolyn Brooks, a Pulitzer Prize-winning poet, being part of Wilson’s first graduating class in 1936. In the 1960s, student protests led to the renaming of Wilson Junior College to Kennedy-King College in honor of U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy and civil rights leader Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. after their assassinations.
